SHUDOKAN The name of the club has been given by Shihan Fumio Toyoda 6th dan and translated from Japanese it means:

    The Place where the Way is learnt.

      The Dojo was founded in January 1998 by Sensei Dobrev. In the beginning its name was Fudokan Dojo and it was one of the first Dojos in Varna at the time. After 2000, the Dojo formally got the name Shudokan Dojo at the insistence of the president of AAI (Aikido Association International) Shihan Fumio Toyoda. At first the club was a member of the Bulgarian Aikido Federation (BAF) but at the end of 1998 it ended membership there and became a regular member of the Bulgarian Aikido Association (BAA).

      On October 30th 1998 Shudokan Dojo took part in its first seminar as a member of BBA in Sofia under the guidance of Sensei Keith Moore 5th dan (a student of Shihan Toyoda). In December, the same year, the first seminar in Varna was held with Sensei Edward Germanov 5th dan, the president of BAA. In the summer of 1998 Shudokan Dojo organized the first summer camp of BAA in Varna. Over 200 aikido practitioners from all Bulgarian organizations - Iwama ryu, National Aikido Union and the Bulgarian Aikido Federation attended it. It took place in the Naval Academy under Sensei Germanov's guidance.

      From May 18th to 20th 2000, again in the Naval Academy, a seminar and a demonstration were held under the guidance of Shihan Fumio Toyoda. The demonstration which took place in the Palace of Culture and Sport Varna was attended by a lot of fans not only of Aikido but other martial arts either. Journalists from the country were there, too.

    In an interview Shihan Toyoda expressed his positive impression of the seminar organization and the demonstration. He also praised the level of technical ability of the Aikido practitioners.

    In the next 2001 from May 31st to June 2th Shudokan Dojo organized second summer Aikido camp of BAA with Sensei Germanov at the same place.

      A year later from June 6th to 8th 2002 a seminar was held with one of the best Shihan Toyoda's students Andrew Sato 5th dan. The seminar took place in the Naval Academy - Varna and more than 100 practitioners from all the country attended it. Instructors from different clubs took part in the demonstration which aroused considerable interest.

      In 2003 the club was host of a seminar with one of Shihan Toyoda's students Hiroshi Tajiri 5th dan who carried out the seminar from May 29th to 31st in the Sports Complex "Jurii Gagarin". It ended with a demonstration held in the Palace of Culture and Sport. Lots of fans of Aikido and other martial arts watched the demonstration. In 2004 Shudokan Dojo organized the traditional Aikido summer camp in Varna which was again in the Sports Complex "Jurii Gagarin".

      In June 2005 the club was host of the next seminar with Sensei Andrew Sato. It was held from June 1st to 3rd in the Sports Complex "Jurii Gagarin". Aikido practitioners from different clubs in Varna attended the seminar which also ended with a demonstration in the Palace of Culture and Sport. The 4th Shukogeiko seminar of BAA in Varna was held in 2006 in the Sports Complex "Jurii Gagarin".

      Six years after Shihan Fumio Toyoda's death a seminar organized by Shudokan Dojo with Shihan Toyoda's son, Sensei Steven Toyoda 3th dan, was held from May 31st to June 2nd 2007 in Varna. It took place in the Sports Complex of Stadium "Spartak". In 2008 from May 29th to 31st and 2009 from May 21st to 23rd the traditional Aikido summer camp of BAA was held in the Sport Hall of the Professional High School of Tourism "Asen Zlatarov" the headquarters of the club.

      Practitioners from different clubs, not only of BAA attended the Shukogeiko camp from May 27th to 29th 2010. This event was to commemorate 10 year of Shihan Fumio Toyoda's last seminar in Varna. It was held in the Sports Hall of the Professional High School of Tourism "Asen Zlatarov".

      As a result of long, purposeful and determined trainings as well as organizing and participating in numerous seminars Shudokan Dojo has established itself like a Dojo with traditions. The club pays special attention and works for the developing of old and young practitioners. It has contributed substantially to the development and popularizing of Aikido in Varna. It has also been the place where most of the instructors with their own Dojos in the city have trained for many years in this Dojo.

     


      Shudokan Dojo observes the traditions and rules that are kept in the Japanese Dojos either during trainings or when holding examinations.
